Airport Transportation Options at Los Cabos International Airport

Los Cabos Beach HammockWho doesn’t want to go to Los Cabos? The weather hardly dips below 70 degrees, the water is warm, and the entire environment compels you to relax. San Jose del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas are both dream vacation destinations with amazing spas and beaches. In terms of activities, ocean fishing, surfing, and golfing reign supreme, but in the winter, the whales come into town and provide quite the spectacle. The cities are beautiful, inviting, and beg the question: why aren’t you already there?  Let us help you get there! Here are the best ways to get to and from Los Cabos International Airport (SJD).

Public Transportation

There are two main towns in the Los Cabos area – Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo. The area of resorts, hotels, and tourist attractions that stretch between the two towns is known as “The Corridor.” Public transportation in this area certainly isn’t as expansive or regulated as the systems we’re used to in the U.S., but it does exist.

The SuburCabos public bus line runs between the two towns, which are about 20 miles away from each other. There is no strict schedule, but the buses generally come every 15-20 minutes. Unlike the buses in the U.S., SuburCabos will stop and pick up pretty much anywhere. While there may not be an official “airport stop,” chances are your bus driver will drop you off there anyway – just be sure to ask, not assume. If you plan on taking the bus, give yourself plenty of time to reach the airport.

Shuttles

If you prefer a little more structure and punctuality, consider taking an airport shuttle service like SuperShuttle. The cost is cheap, and the convenience is worth it. Navigating the public transit systems of a foreign city can be difficult, especially if you don’t speak the language. SuperShuttle offers the familiarity of the same service you’d receive at any major U.S. airport – and yes, we’ll still pick you up directly at your hotel, office, or home and drop you off at your terminal (or vice versa)!

To find us at SJD, proceed outside after collecting your baggage, and a uniformed Yellow Transfers representative will be there holding a sign displaying your name. The representative will handle everything from there on – it’s really that easy.

Taxi Cabs

Los Cabos International Airport has licensed taxis that wait outside the baggage claim area on the arrivals level of terminals 1 and 2. But taxi cabs in the area can be tricky. If you’re taking a cab to San Jose del Cabo, you might be able to get a fairly inexpensive ride, as the city is seven miles north of the airport. If travelling to Cabo San Lucas, however, a taxi ride could cost you anywhere from $75 to $150! Also, unlicensed taxi drivers and street salesman may try to get you into a cab that isn’t licensed. Ask an airport representative if you’re confused as to which taxi companies are legitimate.

Car Rental

You do not need an international driver’s permit to rent a car in Mexico. Eleven rental car companies are at SJD on the arrivals level of terminals 1 and 2. Although they may seem convenient, there is only one primary highway between the two cities. Traffic can become congested, and parking is limited. Combined with mileage fees, higher insurance rates, and higher gas prices, a rental car may not be your best option if you’re trying to stay within a budget.

Private Sedan

If you really want to make an entrance, consider hiring a private sedan service like ExecuCar. Our sophisticated black cars provide private service to and from any resort, office, or home directly to your airport terminal and vice versa. In addition to exclusive service, ExecuCar offers airport meet and greets (particularly helpful in a foreign country), direct corporate billing, and more.

Reservations are required for rides at Los Cabos International Airport. Click here to learn more, book your sedan, and ride in style today.
